RATS & MICE
Because mice and rats ruin food products, damage walls/wiring and carry health risks, it is imperative to act quickly to eradicate the infestation. If left unattended, these rodents can “take over” a residence very quickly!
G. LOUGHEAD inspects the premises and reports findings to the homeowner.
Essential to helping eradicate the infestation, are knowing the food and water sources, entry points and areas most frequented by these pests.
G.LOUGHEAD safely uses baits (rodenticides) and/or traps to get rid of the problem.
* TIPS
Seal openings around pipes/wires that lead into exterior walls of your home.
Weather strip gap under doors – especially attached garage doors.
Remove rubble from around your home perimeter and remove any storage material in garage that mice or rats may attempt to nest in.
Remove food sources by storing food in containers not accessible by rodents i.e. metal or glass.

CARPENTER ANTS
Carpenter ants are a hardy wood boring ant. Finding the nest can often be a challenge. G.LOUGHEAD thoroughly inspects your home with the objective of finding the nesting area. Evidence of frass (sawdust) material, tracking (trail patterns) and “noises” in wall voids/window or door framings etc., assist us in determining the treatment used and where to apply it. If you are seeing these ants in the winter months, it suggests they are nesting somewhere in your home. Exterior treatment of your home is very important.
Contact G.LOUGHEAD to get rid of your ant problem, as not only are they obnoxious by there presence but potentially cause costly wood damage.
* TIPS
Remove any wood storage from around the perimeter of your home and garage. Attend to any area where there is water damage or leaking. Ants are attracted to these areas. In the summer months – watch for carpenter ants tracking up and down the exterior wall of your house or trailing into the house through a crack or space, at ground level. Check periodically at night as these ants are quite active at this time, especially on warm nights. Keep food containers sealed and eliminate spillage.

CENTIPEDES & SOW BUGS
We refer to these insects as “garden” insects.
These insects often show up (usually in your basement) if there has been a water or dampness problem.
These insects prefer damp areas, so it is important to keep your basement dry.
Treatment can often be limited to the basement of your house and some piping voids.
Servicing the exterior perimeter of your home is also very important.
* TIPS
Removing debris/rotting wood and firewood from around the exterior perimeter of your house can help cut down the
numbers of these insects. Correct dampness problems around your exterior wall and basement.

RACCOONS & SQUIRRELS
If you are awakened in the middle of the night by a scratching noise coming from your ceiling, it could be because of raccoons, squirrels or mice! A scampering, chewing, thumping noise usually suggests squirrels.
If you are hearing a digging, chewing sound, accompanied by a heavy shuffle or dragging noise, this indicates raccoons.
A lighter (but equally bothersome) scratching noise suggests mice.
Raccoons often enter your attic by ripping/chewing a hole at the roof edge (fascia board).
Other possible entry points are vents and soffiting. Raccoons love to nest in chimneys and garage/sheds.
Squirrels typically gnaw their way into your home through the fascia board. Vents too, are a means of access.
We at G. LOUGHEAD prefer the “one-way” door method of evicting raccoons and squirrels – in season.
Please inquire about this, as well as repairs to hole openings.
If raccoons and squirrels really want to get in, they will!
Call us, and we will safely get them out – and repair or seal hole openings.
* TIPS
Raccoons and squirrels will usually take the route of least resistance so we recommend the following:
  • Remove unused T.V. towers or block access.
  • Cut branches well back from the edge of your roof.
  • Keep your garage and shed doors/windows well constructed and sealed.
  • Repair broken windows on your garage.
  • Cap chimneys and screen (block) openings under decks.
